Put cloths or fabrics in an empty handkerchief box and pull them out again.
Cut the pieces into similarly large pieces. Size doesn't matter!
It would be nice if they were different fabrics.

Stitch the fabrics in the handkerchief box and offer them to the child. Children start pulling on the cloths all by themselves. and discover very quickly how it works. If all the cloths are pulled out, you can show the child how to put them back in.
