With flat stones you can build wonderful towers of stones.
Spread the placemat.
A carpet tile or a thick felt pad would also be possible.
Put the stones in a basket and offer to the child.
With the stones small towers can be built. Perhaps one shows the child the first time how it can put the stones on each other.
