Harvesting and drying lavender makes it possible to smell the fine aroma of lavender all year round and to use it in the household. Those who want to harvest their lavender for fragrance bags, herbal tea or other purposes should wait for the harvest until the right time. We reveal when it is and what you should pay attention to when harvesting lavender flowers.

Attention: Let children work with the children's shears and not with a garden shear.
About July, shortly before the lavender blossoms, is the right time to cut it. Choose a sunny, warm day for the harvest and cut it best around noon time. (It should not be wet from the morning dew.) From the flower the stalk should be cut about 10 cm further down. You can also cut the stalks further down if you want to use the lavender for dry bouquets, for example.
The children can participate perfectly in the harvest. They can cut off the individual flower stems with the children's scissors and place them on a stack.
Tip: Children sometimes want to wear garden gloves. This is not necessary, but if it is important for the child to wear gloves, just let them work with gloves.
Then place the lavender in small piles side by side.
Then binds the small bouquets together with a band.
At the end of the band tie a loop so that you can hang up the bouquets.
Hang the finished bouquets in a dark, warm place for drying.
For this, e.g. lofts or cabinets are suitable.
Dried lavender can be used in many ways, e.g. for fragrance bags or as tea.
