Gardening with children is fun for everyone. With this exciting garden experiment, children can experience, with lots of fun and completely independently, which stages a bean runs through from germination to small plants. It is really easy! All you need are beans, kitchen paper, adhesive strips and a freezer bag. And the best thing about it is that you can finally pot the small plants into soil and finally harvest your own beans.
Have fun experimenting and astonishing!
First you prepare the materials. You need a freezer bag, 2 sheets of kitchen paper, water and 4 beans.
Then you put the kitchen paper on a waterproof base, for example on a plate.
Now you moisten the kitchen paper with water. It should be wet, but not swim.
Next, put the two folded sheets of kitchen paper in the freezer bag.
Put two beans on each sheet of kitchen paper. A bean on the front and a bean on the back. So 4 beans will find space.
Now you're ripping off two slices of adhesive film.
With this you attach the bag with the beans to a window pane.
Here you can watch and water your beans every day.
Gardener tip:
?? The beans like it warm and damp, but they don't want to swim. Always water the beans carefully.
?? The beans like it warm and bright, but not hot. Choose a window that doesn't get the pungent midday sun. Your delicate seedlings could otherwise damage.
Gardener knowledge:
?? The beans need about 1 week until they germinate.
?? If the plants are large enough, you can carefully take them out of the bag and plant them into a pot. This makes itself wonderful on the balcony or in the garden. The subsequent transfer into the open air is of course just as well possible.
Observation tips:
?? At which point does the bean kernel break up first? And what color does the seedling have at the very beginning?
?? When does the bean begin to form small roots?
?? How many leaves does the bean plant have at the very beginning?
After about 4 days a white tip pushes out of the bean. From this the root forms.
Again a few days later, more roots have formed and the stalk of the bean plant is already visible.
After about 7 days you will recognize the first leaves of the bean plant.
Now it's getting faster and faster, and the bean plant is straightening up and growing up.
If the beans are about 8 cm tall, you can get them out of the bag and plant them into the soil.
Take the bean carefully with your hand out of the bag. Now you have the opportunity to look at the fine roots again.
Now you push a hole in the ground with your finger.
Next you put the bean plant in the hole. Make sure that the hole is large enough and do not break the fine roots.
Make sure that each plant has enough space to grow and that it does not stand too tight.
?? Garden tip:
Here you can see that all plants are different in size, although they were all preferred on the same day.
One of the four beans didn't germinate.
?? Garden tip:
It is always worth planting more seeds than you actually need, because not all seeds start to germinate.
Finally, carefully pour the freshly used plants.
?? Garden tip:
You can pour the bean plants with the watering can, but make sure that the water jet does not wash away the earth.
?? Garden tip:
Put your beans in a sunny place.
?? Garden tip:
If your beans are about 10 cm high, they need a rank help. To do this, you have branches that you can simply collect in the forest.
Have fun experimenting and watching!
